Carillion Amey - Patch Management

Amey are responsible for within
your patch
Improving the way we manage your patch
As part of the improvement plan, CarillionAmey have rolled out a new initiative which we are hoping will assist with better communication. Each Accommodation Officer (AO) is responsible for making regular checks on the Service Family homes and the surrounding communal areas for which they are responsible. They conduct regular inspections looking out for things such as graffiti, fallen trees, and potholes in roads. During their walk-around they also take a look at the exterior of properties, and may often notice things that families miss, such as a leaking drainpipe or blocked guttering and should alert the occupants so that a job can be raised.

Nowadays with so many families where both partners work, sometimes issues are identified when no one is home, and although the AO will raise the job with the Helpdesk, families may only find out about it when an engineer arrives to complete the job. We recognise that may be a concern for some families so CarillionAmey’s new patch management inspection card aims to solve this problem. Once the AO has identified an issue with the exterior of a property, the details will be completed on the card and posted through the letterbox, helping to prevent small repairs becoming bigger ones.

Important - Window Safety Check Required

Window restrictors in Service Family Accommodation
Important - Window Safety Check Required

As we approach the warmer months of the year, it is really important to check that the window restrictors in the upstairs of your property are working correctly, especially if you have children.
You can do this by:
·         Engaging the window restrictor (putting the lock/latch on) and trying to fully open the window. The restrictor should only allow the window to be opened a small way
·         Look at your window restrictor. It should have the BS kite safety mark stamped on it (shown below)

If you are concerned that your window restrictor is not working correctly please call us on 0800 707 6000 option 1.

If you are moving into your property, your Accommodation Officer will check the window restrictors for you and show you how they work.

CarillionAmey - Your Accommodation Officer is your key contact

Your Accommodation Officer – your key housing person

If you are living in Service Family Accommodation, your CarillionAmey Accommodation Officer (AO) is your key point of contact on the ground.  Their role is instrumental in making sure that you and we are looking after your home from the moment you move into it to the moment you move out.  Our AOs are often your first point of contact and make a real difference to the smooth running of your move in and out. We now have a large team of 138 people working as AOs or in supporting roles and we’re running on-going training to ensure they have both the technical expertise you need as well as being customer focused.
Each AO looks after between 250 to 300 properties and is responsible for moving families into and out of them as well as looking after you whilst you are living in the property. They also ensure local play parks, street lighting and communal grounds areas are well maintained.
If you have an ongoing issue with your property or surrounding areas, please call the Helpdesk on 0800 707 6000 on either option 1 or option 3 and ask our advisor to contact your AO to arrange a home visit.  By working together, we can try and make sure that your stay in your property is an enjoyable one.

BFBS - Awarded with two more community radio licences

TWO MORE COMMUNITY RADIO LICENCES FOR ARMED FORCES AUDIENCES

Ofcom has awarded two new FM community radio licences to broadcast at BFBS Brize Norton and BFBS Shorncliffe.

The FM services will enhance the established ‘live and local’ network operated in military locations across the UK, and BFBS’s national station on DAB.

Nicky Ness, BFBS Controller, said: “We are delighted to be awarded these community licences and are planning to install the FM transmitters as quickly as possible.  We already have very active radio stations at both locations.

“The introduction of an FM service at Brize Norton will help the reach of the station, based within the RAF community at Carterton.  We launched two years ago via a regional DAB platform and the presenters have really established themselves and our programmes with their audience.

“BFBS in Shorncliffe, Kent, provides services in the Nepali language for the Brigade of Gurkhas and their families, broadcasting within the Sir John Moore Barracks on AM for the last 16 years.  This is therefore an exciting upgrade for the community, who also really value their radio station.”

Changes to Enhanced Learning Credit schemes

Enhanced Learning Credits, Further Education and Higher Education scheme changes
The MOD promotes learning among members of the armed forces and the veterans’ community by providing what are known as Learning Credits, through the Enhanced Learning Credits scheme and Further Education and Higher Education scheme.  Both of these entitle Service personnel and Service leavers to receive financial help with the cost of their learning.
From 1 April 2016 there will be some changes to the schemes to make them more accessible and to enable people to use them to gain personal and professional qualifications in a more flexible way, both while serving and after transition to civilian life.

Carillion Amey News

Helping to make a difference to Service Family Homes

Improving homes is a great job because it helps to make lives better. Our project teams at CarillionAmey are responsible for running improvement projects as and when DIO give us the green light to start a project and when MOD funding is made available. The projects run throughout the Government’s financial year which runs from 31st March to 1st April.

Project work is very satisfying, the teams really enjoy what they do because it involves making Service homes better, modernising them and helping to make them more energy efficient. Project work means our teams often spend a lot of time with the families and unit personnel which helps them to understand what Service families’ lives are like and why what they do is so important.

A recent project which serves as a good example took place at Bovington Camp in Dorset and was completed in April. Fifty houses have been transformed from tired and outdated homes into smart and modern places to live with new external wall insulation, replacement windows and doors and new boilers.

New National Insurance Credits for Service spouses and civil partners

New National Insurance Credits for Service spouses and civil partners to help protect your future State Pension
From 6 April 2016, spouses and civil partners of Service personnel have been able to apply for a new type of National Insurance (NI) credit to protect their State Pension.

The new Class 3 NI credits have been introduced  in recognition of the fact that accompanying on deployment overseas may have affected a Service spouse or civil partner’s ability to work and pay NI contributions. This could potentially result in a gap in their NI record and could affect the amount of State Pension they receive in retirement.

The new DWP credits have been taken forward under the Armed Forces Covenant, which states that members of the Armed Forces and their families should receive fair treatment from the nation which they serve. More information about the Armed Forces Covenant can be found at
https://www.gov.uk/government/policies/armed-forces-covenant.

It is estimated that this could benefit up to 20,000 individuals, ensuring that they do not miss out on their State Pension.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:
“We are making sure that military spouses and partners who spend time based overseas get the State Pension they deserve. This is the latest step under the Armed Forces Covenant to ensure that service personnel and their families are treated fairly.”
Am I eligible to apply for the new credits?
Service spouses and civil partners will be eligible to apply for the new Class 3 NI credits if they:
• Reach State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016, that means they were born on or after 6 April 1953 (if a woman) or 6 April 1951 (if a man); and
• Are or have been married to /in a civil partnership with a member of the Armed Forces; and
• Have accompanied their spouse or civil partner on a deployment outside the UK at any time since 6 April 1975; and
• At the time of the posting their spouse or civil partner must have paid, been treated as having paid or been credited with UK National Insurance
You can still apply if you are now widowed, divorced or have had your civil partnership dissolved, provided you were married or in a civil partnership at the time you accompanied your partner abroad.
